Kick The Cat

"A group of young Chicago virtuosos playing their game at a very high level" - The Jazz Institute of Chicago's Jazz Gram "A scary band!"
- Barry Winograd,
WXRT Chicago's "Jazz Transfusion"

The contemporary ensemble Kick the Cat perfectly represents new young jazz/fusion/funk moving into the 21st century. Their work can best be described as funky, rockin' and cutting edge.

The compositions feature extended harmony, odd time signatures, and improvisation. The group's spontaneity and uncanny communication sets the stage for amazing performances, while acrobatic technique sets them apart from the ordinary.

The band's energy lifted Blujazz release "Weirdo" to the top ten of many college stations in the College Music Journal. Kick The Cat is bassist/leader Chris Clemente, who Bass Frontiers Magazine says, "funks, swings, and solos with style and ease;" keyboardist Vijay Tellis, whose professional accomplishments were foretold by his winning the Eastern Illinois University Young Composers Competition three years in a row; guitarist Chris Siebold, who has also played with greats like Clark Terry, Randy Brecker, and Nicholas Payton, among others; and drummer Kris Meyers who has performed with such artists as Diane Schuur, Nicholas Payton, and Randy Brecker, to name a few. Band members are all Chicago-based.
